One of the most important aspects of home staging is to make a home appeal to the widest range of buyers possible. While some buyers may appreciate the special décor in your kids’ rooms, many may not. Offering up a blank canvas will help any buyer who walks in imagine how they will use the space rather than getting caught up in how the current family lives there.
Kids Bedroom Staging Tips:
Declutter and keep it organised
Like any other space in your home, it’s important to declutter your kids’ rooms before putting it on the market. It’s a good time to start packing up some of their things ahead of the move. Clear out as much as you can so the room and closet look more spacious.
Paint the walls in a neutral colour
While kids’ rooms with bold colours and imaginative murals are fun, they can be unappealing to buyers without kids (or kids of different ages or tastes). Their first thought will be the investment of changing the décor. To avoid this issue, paint the room in a neutral colour so any buyer can imagine their own décor in its place.
Don’t advertise your children’s names
For safety reasons, it’s smart to get rid of any mention of your child’s name in their bedroom. Strangers will be touring your home, so for your child’s privacy, put away anything that displays their name such as wall art or bedding. It will also make things less personal so buyers won’t get distracted by the uncomfortable feeling of touring a stranger’s personal space and instead can focus on imagining their life there.
