It’s a well known fact that March is the best time of year to sell your home. The weather is starting to change, the flowers are beginning to bloom and people are generally ready for a change. Besides, everyone wants time to sort out their new home before Summer.
It makes sense therefore, to start getting your house ready for sale in December. Once the tree comes down, we tend to enjoy a blitz of our homes, getting rid of clutter and giving our rooms a good old clean, so why make hard work for yourself by doing this again a few weeks down the line?
Whilst you’re already sorting out the house by removing decorations and outdoor lighting, take the opportunity to deep clean those corners and crevices that never see the light of day, including your UPVC exterior and guttering. Get the windows cleaned and set yourself a reminder to keep on top of them.
It’s also a good time to plant your Spring bulbs. Get those daffodil and tulip bulbs into the ground now. Some may advise you not to do this but as long as the ground isn’t frost hard, it won’t hurt these hardy bulbs. Whilst you’re in the garden, take the time to pick up some leaves too. The real gardening work won’t start until the end of February but this will give you a bit of a leg up.
If you’re lucky enough to have some time off before you go back to work in January, make a start on painting and decorating and if there are rooms that really need a makeover, see what deals you can find for new bathrooms and kitchens in the January sales.
It’s important to think ahead rather than being blindsided by too much work when the time comes to sell your home. It will just cause stress and delays and worse, you might miss the March selling window completely.
