We’ve all heard that how you decorate your home and how you place your furniture can have an affect on your your mental well being. So it’s no surprise that there are things you can do to create a mindful interior space which is especially essential in today’s busy life.
You might absolutely love a particular colour, but does that mean you should decorate your house in that colour? The answer is, probably not, because whilst some colours can have a positive psychological effect on us, some can be quite negative. Check out these amazing facts.
1. Pink soothes the nerves and is often used for anger management
2. Yellow and red together make you hungry (anyone else thinking McDonalds?)
3. Colour has a big impact on a first impression
4. People are more likely to forget something that is black and white
So how do we create a mindful interior space? First of all you have to establish a sense of harmony. De-cluttering can help with this, that old adage, a tidy desk a tidy mind is true. Keep your mindful space clutter free, add in plants, candles, perhaps incense, things that should soothe you.
Keep the space you have selected to establish harmony, personal to you. It should be your own space, whether that’s an office, garden room or bedroom, but make it yours, not for people visiting. Going green has a really great affect on the soul, whether that’s introducing accessories or bringing in potted plants. Personally, I prefer the latter. If you can, make it so that your space has a window that overlooks a green space, it makes all the difference.
Lastly, play with your senses! Perhaps introduce a water feature or colour changing strip lights? Scented candles or incense are always worth using. Think about what you are trying to achieve in your mindful space and highlight the senses you want to pay attention to with the right accessories to do the job.
