If you’re selling your property you want to make sure that you get the best possible price in the shortest possible time. One way to ensure that it is ready to impress potential buyers is to hire a professional home staging company. But is it worth the cost?
WHAT IS HOME STAGING:
Home staging does not involve any renovation or maintenance work – a staging company instead visually enhances your property (through furniture, mirror, soft furnishings, accessories, and artwork) to present it in its best light so that viewers can imagine themselves living there. A good home stager makes a home look impersonal but stylish, in order to appeal to the maximum number of buyers. Since the vast majority of buyers make a decision on whether to view a property based on the photos they see online, a well-staged home with high quality photos that show its full potential can work wonders for generating viewing enquiries
DOES HOME STAGING HELP A HOME SALE:
Yes. Home staging can be particularly useful in a slow market.
Rather than slash your asking price if your property isn’t attracting offers, you could look at getting your house in tip-top shape instead.
In a stronger market, home staging can help you to get a higher price
A staged home sells for an average of 15% more than a non-staged home. On a £250,000 property that means you could get an additional £37,500 – far less than the cost of hiring a staging company.
HOW MUCH DOES HOME STAGING COST?
You can expect to fork out anything from £500 to upwards of £5,000 for home staging.
At the lower end of the budget is the DIY option, which might mean buying some nice soft furnishings yourself and putting your belongings and furniture into storage.
A ‘staging professional’ or a ‘home stager’ will usually offer a free initial meeting to discuss your options. I know we do.
